The estimates below are based on a sample of persons who participated in the 2019 American Community Survey (ACS).

Percent of People Reported Having a Disability in 2019*

Across the United States:12.7% or 324,371,500 million of non-institutionalized, male or female, all ages, all races, regardless of ethnicity, with all education levels in the United stated reported a disability in 2019.

  • In other words, 41,207,700 out of 324,371,500 non-institutionalized, male or female, all ages, all races, regardless of ethnicity, with all education levels in the United States reported a disability. The estimates below are based on a sample of 3,166,607 persons who participated in the 2019 American Community Survey (ACS).

The estimates above are based on a sample of 193,077 persons who participated in the 2019 American Community Survey (ACS).

  • Michigan: 36.1% or 694,500 people
  • Minnesota: 48.1% or 281,500 people
  • Ohio: 39.7% or 778,100 people
  • Wisconsin: 43.1% or 321,100 people

Percentage of People with Disabilities Living Below the Poverty Line*

Across the United States: 25.1% or 19,433,000 million of non-institutionalized persons aged 21 to 64 years with disability, were living below the poverty line in 2019.
  • In other words, 4,871,500 out of 19,433,000 non-institutionalized persons aged 21 to 64 years with a disability in the United States were living below the poverty line in 2019. The estimates above are based on a sample of 192,314 persons who participated in the 2019 American Community Survey (ACS).
