Latinos with disabilities in the Great Lakes Region

A disability is any condition physical or mental that makes it difficult for an individual to do daily life activities. There are many disabilities, and the census has an optional survey which asks individuals to address some questions on disabilities. The next charts represent the breakdown of responses by those who identify as Latino with disabilities by state and disability type.

  • Ambulatory: Due to a physical or mental disability they have difficulty in walking or climbing stairs

  • Cognitive: Due to a physical or mental disability, they have difficulty remembering, concentrating, or making decisions.

  • Vision: Due to a physical or mental disability they have difficulty seeing or are blind

  • Hearing: Due to a physical or mental disability they have difficulty hearing or are deaf

  • Independent living: Due to a physical or mental disability they have difficulty doing errands alone such as shopping or visiting their doctor.

  • Self-care: Due to a physical or mental disability they have difficulty dressing or doing personal grooming
