ADA Report Card for Indiana
OVERALL COMMUNITY AVERAGE: C minus
Grade Point Average = 1.77
During September 2020, people with disabilities, family members, and advocates in Indiana had the
opportunity to report how well they felt their communities were doing in implementing the Americans
with Disabilities Act. They were asked to “grade” their communities and to point out areas where there
was need for more progress in coming into compliance with the ADA.

Respondents were quite informed about the ADA. 72% of Indiana respondents reported that they
have above average to very high knowledge of the law.

122 individuals with disabilities, family members, and advocates participated in this survey.
The bar graph visually presents the following response numbers:
- 4.1% – An interested community member without a disability
- 13.9% – Parent, family member, or guardian of a person with disability
- 16.4% – Professional working in local/state government
- 21.3% – Professional or a service provider
- 44.3% – Person with a disability
These respondents covered 43 out of Indiana’s 92 counties. 66% of the respondents were from
central Indiana counties, 17% were from southern Indiana counties, and 17% were from the northern
counties of the State.
The ADA Report Card was sponsored by the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities
under grant award Grant #18875. The survey was conducted and analyzed by the Center for Health
Equity at Indiana University’s Indiana Institute on Disability and Community.
